MDS Energy Development president Michael D. Snyder is a member of the Snyder family, which operates a successful and highly diversified family office with significant holdings in energy, banking, and mining.
The Snyder family has been in business since 1941 and is one of the largest independent producers of natural gas in Pennsylvania. MDS joint ventures with the Snyder Family on its investment partnerships.
MDS Energy Development has successfully sponsored 15 tax advantaged natural gas drilling partnerships, which have raised nearly $300 million dollars of outside investor capital.
MDS is also a true, vertically integrated drilling company, owning and operating its own rigs and earth moving equipment. When not working on its own projects, we operate as a subcontractor to companies like Exxon-Mobil and EQT Corporation.
Our Executive Team
Michael D. Snyder – Founder & CEOM
Mr. Snyder oversees the day-to-day operations of various MDS companies, including our vertically integrated drilling/pipeline company Appalachian Drillers, and our insurance brokerage firm National Brokerage Atlantic He and his family reside in Fox Chapel, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
Michael S. Knapp – President
Starting his career as a landman with MDS in 2007, Michael has since overseen the company’s land acquisition, public relations, and government affairs departments. He and his land team directly secured more than 30,000 acres of term leases in the Marcellus and Utica basins, predominantly in Western Pennsylvania. Among other responsibilities, he currently leads the company’s capital markets division, which has raised and deployed over $230 million in outside investor capital. He resides in Pittsburgh, PA and holds FINRA series 22, 39, and 63 licenses.
Richard Saadeh – Executive Vice President of Development
A western Pennsylvania native, Rich began his career in 2004 with Exxon-Mobil (XOM) as a reservoir and facilities engineer, working in Green River Basin, WY and on producing platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2010 he was promoted to Reservoir Engineer Supervisor, overseeing teams in East Texas and the mid continent. In 2013, he moved upward to lead the team developing XTO/Exxon’s annual corporate plan (+/- $5B capex), and then on to the business development team where he evaluated and helped effectuate acquisitions in the Permian, Bakken, Eagle Ford, and Appalachian basins, exceeding $6B in value. In 2017 he was again promoted to Appalachia Asset Development manager, where he was responsible for the development an asset of over 600,000 acres and 1,600 planned wells. In 2018 he accepted a position with Range Resources (RRC) as its Director of Reservoir Engineering. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Penn State University and resides in Fort Worth, TX.
Woody Soemantoro – Executive Vice President of Due Diligence
Woody has over 20 years of experience in the securities industry, coming to MDS from Catalyst Energy in 2015. He oversees broker/dealer interactions, facilitates new selling agreements, and manages the third-party due diligence process for MDS investment partnerships. Mr. Soemantoro earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics/Math from George Mason University and holds Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses. He currently resides in Huntington Beach, CA.
Jack Hollander – Executive Vice President of Capital Formation
Mr. Hollander currently is Executive Vice President of Capital Formation for MDS. Over the course of his 30 plus year career he has been involved in the development and management of alternative and tax advantage investment programs and their underlying assets. During the past 18 years he has raised capital for oil and gas and real estate investment partnerships with over $3 billion of capital raised. Mr. Hollander began his career in financial services in 1982. He received a law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1981 and a Masters of Law degree in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1982. Mr. Hollander is a member of the New York State bar. He is a member of a FINRA test writing committee and was the Chairman of the Investment Program Association, which is an industry association, from March 2005 to November 2011.
Randall L. Morris, Jr. – Chief Operating Officer
Randy has been with MDS since 2007. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University in 2004. Prior work experience includes a position as an engineer for General Electric and as a Field Engineer Specialist for Northrop Grumman. He oversaw the development of over 130 MDS operated wells, and currently oversees the day-to-day operations of our field staff, while also managing the company’s legacy assets and governmental compliance. He resides in Kittanning, PA
